Uterine Fibroids and PCOS
Uterine fibroids are the most common non-malignant growths in women of childbearing age. They are associated with heavy menstrual bleeding and subfertility. Herbal preparations are commonly used as alternatives to surgical procedures.
Common symptoms may include heavy or painful periods; prolonged menstrual periods; bleeding between periods; pelvic pain or low back pain; ’fullness’ in the lower abdomen, with or without urinary or rectal symptoms due to compression; and reproductive problems, such as infertility, multiple miscarriages, or early onset of labour during pregnancy. Many women with uterine fibroids do not have any symptoms
Women may experience changes in their menstrual cycle due to one or more of these conditions, and the causes can often change over time. For example, women diagnosed with PCOS at a young age may eventually develop uterine fibroids and begin to experience heavier and more frequent cycles in their 30s and 40s.
